Snapshots from the car

I was driving to pick up the kid... so I just shot without looking =)

The idea was to show how TERRIBLY dry it is... it has only rained once since we came back at the beginning of August.

August-September

 September came and went... almost. The kids were all at home until the middle of the month: We ate, we swam, we played and watched movies. Now the boys are in Florence and Rome at university, the eldest is preparing for her last exams and the little one is at school. It's still really dry around here, almost no rain at all and I can't wait for the temperatures to go down.

We are back in Italy after our first summer without my mother in Finland... it has not been easy and I did not feel like blogging about much at all... hoping to pick up now though.

More Stripes

My friend Mari had an idea on a variation of a stripey shawl and I liked the look of hers so I wanted one too.

I had some gorgeous BFL yarn from Handu so off I went and the shawl turned out simply gorgeous!

I'm leaving for Finland soon so I'll give it a bath there,   and I can't wait to be able to use it.

Hoje

Second package of Villavyyhti's club was a lovely skein of Hopeasäie yarn in a greeny torquise.

The pattern is by Mari Muinonen and it is a beautiful airy scarf that can be worn in many ways.

I knit most of it while sitting in hospital by my mother's bed, it helped keep me in one piece...

A 'normal' walk

For months I have stayed at home , if not in Finland, to be by the phone, to be 'close' to my mother even when I've been here in Italy, far away.

It is now time to get used to going out again and living normally.

Friends

 These two long weeks have been, well, long... My family was in Italy and my brother is as heartbroken as am I so what kept me in one piece were friends. Friends who laughed and cried with me and let me talk and let me not talk... A very therapeutic red sofa in the yarn store...

        an amazing pair of socks with a hand-made project bag...

    help in getting started with my new Ipad, from a friend who drove almost 500km in 24 hours, just to BE there...

 and others... who came to spend the evening, or night, or let me talk and let me cry and made me laugh ... you are the best, my friends. I will survive, after all I am my amazing mother's daughter!
