One of my favourite books as a child

This book was printed in 1956, the original is in french, and it is based on the movie...

It totally fascinated me as a child... so sad and yet so ... not sad.
Does anyone else recognize it? Is anyone there as old as I am? =)

I don't know this book, but I saw another movie from the same author called "crin blanc". it made me cry so much when I was younger. it's about a young boy and a wild horse, talking about freedom...

Yes, yes! Thanks for the great blog comment on my Red Balloon post! So wonderful to know that you loved it as a child & passed it on to your children. I actually discovered it as an adult (but before I had my son). I too have conflicting emotions about it -it's sad, but happy all at once. I'm also really drawn to the imagery. We have the book & read it often & watch the movie pretty frequently too. My son always hugs me at the end because he knows I have a lump in my throat & I suspect he does too. Now when we watch he gives the movie his own subtitles & his version is just as interesting. I think he just wants to make sure I understand everything that is going on. ;)
